Age spots
Age spots also called liver spots or solar lentigines are flat, dark, and pigmented areas that gradually develop with age. They vary in size and usually appear on areas mostly exposed to sun such as the face, hands, neck, and shoulders. The primary cause of the age spots is exposure to ultraviolet rays (UV) that stimulate the production of melanin in the skin. Age spots are a sign of a lot of sun exposure that causes melanin to accumulate in the specific areas gradually leading to the formation of age spots.
Fine Lines
Fine lines are the small creases on the skin that further develop into wrinkles. These lines can develop on the face, neck, and other areas of the body. They are caused by the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. Several factors may accelerate the formation of fine lines such as sun exposure, smoking, and stress. Fine lines are closer to the surface of the skin whereas, wrinkles appear deeper on the surface. These lines are more common in areas of the face where the skin is delicate and frequently subjected to facial movements.
Crow's Feet
Crow's Feet or lateral canthal lines are the wrinkles that appear at the side of the eyes, stretching out towards the temples. The term Crow's Feet is used because of how the lines splay out in a similar shape to a crow’s claw or foot. The primary causes of crow's feet include a reduction in the production of collagen and elastin, proteins that provide the skin. The crow’s feet are most visible when smiling or laughing, therefore they are also called smile lines. They are the most prominent in areas of the face that are prone to repetitive movement.
Sagging Skin
Sagging skin is the loose skin that has lost fat, collagen, and elastin proteins. There can be several causes of sagging skin including genetics ethnicity, and medical conditions. Loose skin or turkey neck occurs as skin loses its elasticity and in cases where people have lost weight. As we age our skin loses its ability to maintain its structure, thereby leading to a loose and sagging appearance. Environmental factors such as exposure to the sun can speed up the process by causing radiation damage to collagen and elastin on the skin.
Collagen Loss
Collagen is a crucial protein that provides the skin with its firmness, elasticity, and structural support. As we age, our body's ability to produce collagen diminishes, leading to a range of effects, including wrinkles, sagging skin, and reduced skin hydration. Collagen loss is a natural and significant component of the aging process. This decline in collagen production usually begins in the mid to late 20s and continues to decrease gradually with age. Various factors, such as sun exposure, smoking, and an unhealthy lifestyle, can accelerate collagen loss.
Skin Rejuvenation
Skin rejuvenation treatments are used to restore the skin texture and youthful appearance. Skin rejuvenation treatments include the use of lasers, chemicals, or physical approaches. The goal of these treatments is to stimulate new collagen development, which helps tighten and tone the skin. Skin rejuvenation treatments are highly beneficial in addressing the skin damage caused by sun exposure, health conditions, and ageing. Over time these skin rejuvenation treatments can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles of the entire face or those that develop in specific regions of the face, such as the upper lip and around the eyes.
